In the lead up to moving house, there’s dozens of things to keep on top of and mark off your packing checklist. Here are five essential things to do when you’re moving house:

Pack smart

There’s nothing worse than packing something you’ll need in the days up to your move a week early. Make packing lists in the lead up to your move, label your boxes logically and make it a gradual, well-thought out process.

Redirect your post

Be sure to redirect your mail which is an easy process through Australia Post. This can be done for either 1, 3, 6 or 12 months for permanent moves and requires a small fee and short application process.

Clean out your pad

It’s super important to thoroughly clean your house or apartment so you pass any inspections with your landlord and the new tenants moving in. There’s plenty of end of lease cleaning services you can take advantage of if, including Move Out Mates and Sydney Best Bond Cleaning, you’d prefer to leave it to the professionals.

Take advantage of self storage

Sometimes renting a storage unit is a great way to facilitate your move, particularly if there’s some items you’re not sure whether you’ll be keeping or selling later on eBay or Gumtree.

Connect and disconnect your utilities

Be sure to notify your suppliers that you’re moving and get the connecting and disconnecting process started so that you’re ready to go when the move in date comes up. Services like GoSwitch can help you compare electricity and gas plans in your area before you sign on.
